This time of the year tends to cause us to reflect on the past and be thankful for all we have.  This was particularly true for a patient’s wife who contacted our RVH Foundation office with a generous gift in honour of our incredible Emergency Department team.

“My husband was alone at our cottage and started to experience symptoms of a heart attack; prolonged feeling of indigestion, pain in his jaw and a tightening in his chest.  He drove himself to the Emergency Department of the Renfrew Victoria Hospital and presented himself to the nurse.  Almost immediately, he went into cardiac failure and the nurse had to jump in and do CPR, the medical team was called to use the paddles and they brought him back.  He was then ambulanced to the Heart Institute where he went into surgery for a stent.  That nurse, the Emergency doctor and the Emergency staff saved my husband’s life.  He would not be here if not for the quick action of the nurse and doctor at RVH.

This Christmas, I have my husband still with me, thanks to the RVH Emergency department and the medical team at the Heart Institute.  I am forever grateful.”

I would like to thank this lovely couple, not just for the generous donation but also for sharing their story with us so we could share with our readers.

Not just at this time of year, but throughout the year, we are so grateful for the care and compassion provided to our patients by our RVH medical team!  Thank you for continuing to bring the best in care, close to home.
