Shave the Day
10 Years, 2 Doctors, 0 Hair: Shaving for Palliative Care
Our Story
Ten years ago, we arrived in Renfrew, full heads of hair, and absolutely no idea how deeply this community would shape our lives. Being your family doctor has been the privilege of our careers — and some of our most meaningful work has been in palliative care.
Dr. Anthony DeJesus & Dr. Tara Avelino
Walking with patients and families through life’s final chapters is an honour that changes you. We’ve seen firsthand how compassionate, high‑quality palliative care at Renfrew Victoria Hospital brings comfort, dignity, and peace when it matters most.
The Challenge
A decade of service felt like something worth celebrating… and maybe doing something a little bold.
So last year, we made a pact:
Grow the hair. Mark the milestone. Make it count.
On September 4, we’re taking it all off — both of us, both heads, zero hesitation.
The Impact
This isn’t just a haircut. It’s a double‑impact shave:
- For Renfrew: Every dollar raised goes directly to the RVH Palliative Care program, supporting local patients and families right here at home.
- For the Kids: Our hair will be donated to the Angel Hair for Kids Foundation, helping create wigs for children experiencing medical hair loss.
Two doctors. Two heads. One giant pile of hair doing a whole lot of good.

Thank you, Renfrew, for an unforgettable decade.
Here’s to the next one — and to a future where our patients feel supported, our community feels proud, and our newly bald heads feel… surprisingly breezy.
